The Eicher Story

Way back in 1948, there was a company called Goodearth that started bringing cool tractors from overseas to India. That was the humble beginning of what we now know as Eicher Motors Limited. This brand is one of the big players in the auto world and they’ve got their headquarters in New Delhi. Oh, and they’re like the boss of Royal Enfield, the folks who make those awesome bikes we see zipping around town. Now, let’s wind the clock back to 1959. Back then, Eicher decided to shake hands with a company from Germany to make tractors right here in India. Fast forward to 1965, and Eicher was flying solo, an all-Indian company through and through. And yeah, in 1990, they got a piece of Enfield India and before you knew it, they were running the show at Royal Enfield.

Eicher In India

Back in 2008, Eicher Motors shook hands with the big-name Volvo Group. Together, they started something big, a venture called VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) to be precise. It wasn’t just about making trucks and buses; it was about engineering, designing, and a lot more. Fast forward to today, and Volvo’s got a bit less of the pie, holding 45.6% of VECV, while Eicher Motors proudly owns the larger slice. But Eicher’s story doesn’t stop there. They teamed up with Polaris Industries in 2012, eyeing the market for personal rides that mean business. Although they parted ways in 2018, Eicher didn’t hit the brakes, they kept cruising along though. As of now, VECV stands tall, boasting big names under its umbrella like Eicher Trucks and Buses, not to mention Volvo Trucks India.
