Asus is a Taiwanese multinational consumer electronics and computer hardware company established in the year 1989. The company manufactures a plethora of products such as personal computers, laptops, smartphones, motherboards, routers, gaming consoles and more. The formal name of this company is Asustek Computer Inc. As of January 2023, Asus is the fifth largest vendor of personal computers by unit sales in the world.
History
Asus was founded on 2nd April 1989 at Taipei, Taiwan by four hardware engineers who worked at Acer. The company developed a motherboard for Intel486 processor and was able to not only successfully test it but also improve Intel486 processor. In the year 2005, Asus ventured into the LCD television market with its TLW32001 model. Asus launched the VX laptop series in the year 2006. In the year 2007, Asus launched Eee PC which revolutionised the PC industry.
Asus and Garmin partnered in 2008 and produced six types of smartphones jointly over the next two years till the partnership broke up in the year 2010. In the year 2010, Asus launched the world’s thinnest notebook named Asus U36.
Fortune Magazine acknowledged Asus as one of the World’s Most Admired Companies in the 2015 and 2016. Asus has also been ranked as Taiwan’s Most Valuable International Brand for four years straight by Interbrand. It is present in 50 countries and its products are particularly popular in Asia.
Manufacturing Facilities
Asus operates its manufacturing facilities in four locations in Taiwan, two locations in mainland China and one location each in Czech Republic and Mexico. Asus also operates a high-tech park covering 540,000 square metres in Suzhou, China. Asus has 50 service sites and over 400 service partners globally.
Products
Asus manufactures Android smartphones which mainly use Intel processors. The smartphones are sold under the ZenFone series. Some examples include ZenFone 4/5/6, ZenFone Zoom, ZenFone 2 Laser, ZenFone Max and ZenFone 2E. Asus has a good position in the smartphones market in India, China and other Asian countries.
Other products include laptops, desktop PCs, tablet computers, servers, GPS devices, motherboards, graphic cards, personal digital assistants, computer components, computer networking devices, computer cooling systems and computer monitors.
