Xiaomi Corporation is a Chinese multinational electronics company established in the year 2010. The company designs, manufactures and sells smartphones, consumer electronics, computer hardware and software, speakers, laptops, headphones, electric scooters and more. Xiaomi is the second largest manufacturer of smartphones in the world after Samsung. The company’s products are sold in over 100 countries.
History
Xiaomi was founded on April 2010 by Lei Jun and his six associates. Lei Jun had earlier founded Kingsoft and Joyo.com. The company developed and launched its Mi user interface based on Android open-source project on August 2010. Xiaomi launched its first smartphone, Xiaomi Mi 1 based on MIUI firmware on August 2011. On September 2013, Xiaomi launched Mi 3 smartphone and also a Android based 3D smart television.
By the year 2014, Xiaomi held the largest market share of smartphones sold in China. In the same year, the company sold more than 60 million smartphones and 94% of its revenues came from smartphone sales. In the year 2015, Xiaomi first expanded outside China with the launch of Redmi 2 in Brazil. On March 2016, Xiaomi launched Redmi Note 3 Pro in India which was the first to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor.
In the year 2017, Xiaomi launched the first Android 1 smartphone named Xiaomi Mi A1 in partnership with Google. Xiaomi became the largest smartphone brand in India in the third quarter of 2017. The first smart home products by the company were launched in USA in May 2018. Xiaomi opened its stores in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan in the year 2017. On March 2020, Xiaomi launched its first foldable smartphone, Mi Mix Fold.
Xiaomi was ranked 266th in the Fortune 500 list released in 2021.

Xiaomi manufactures and sells a plethora of smartphone models in various series such as Mi, Mi Note, Mi Max, Mi Mix, Blackshark, Pocophone and more. The company also sells laptops, smartwatches, mobile apps, smart televisions, unmanned aerial vehicles and IoT based smart home automation systems.
Xiaomi offers a host of online services such as Mi Game, Mi Music, Mi Video and more. In 2019, Xiaomi expanded its product range to include many accessories including backpacks, lunchboxes, screwdrivers, bags, mugs, filters, glasses and hats.
