Vivo is a Chinese multinational technology company headquartered in Dongguan, China. It is a subsidiary of BBK Electronics which is also the parent company of Oppo, Realme and OnePlus. Vivo manufactures smartphones and smartphone accessories and also develops software and offers online services. The brand is mainly present in South Asia and in some countries in Europe. Vivo was ranked among the top 5 smartphone brands in the year 2021.
History
Founded in the year 2009, Vivo was initially limited to the Chinese market. However, in the year 2014, it expanded into the global market, mainly in South Asia. Vivo entered the smartphone market in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Macau, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei and Russia in the year 2017.
Vivo introduced its smartphones in the European market in the year 2020 and has a presence currently in some European countries such as France, Italy, UK and Spain. The company also sells its products in Australia, Chile and Columbia.
Currently, Vivo sells its products and services in 60 countries and has a user base of over 400 million.
Products
Smartphones are the flagship products of Vivo. The unique selling point of this brand is smartphones with top specifications at mid-range prices. The most prominent series of smartphones is the X series such as X60. Apart from X, Vivo sells its Y series smartphones such as Y20 and Y70. S and V series of smartphones were initially sold in China only but later introduced in Europe.
Vivo also manufactures phone accessories such as audio devices. For instance, Vivo TWS Neo earbuds for using with Vivo smartphones. The company has also expanded into the wearable electronic market with the introduction of Vivo Watch.
Promotions
Vivo became the official sponsor of Indian Premier League in 2016 with a contract for 2 years which was extended to 2022. However, due to controversies, the BCCI suspended the deal in 2020. Vivo is also a title sponsor of Pro Kabbadi League in India.
Vivo was the official smartphone brand for the FIFA 2018 and 2022 world cup tournaments. It was also the official partner for UEFA 2020 and UEFA 2024.
