Origins and History
Realme was a sub-brand of Oppo till 4th May 2018 when it became an independent brand. Oppo is a subsidiary of a technology company called BBK Electronics, thus Realme is also a subsidiary of the same company. The first smartphone of this brand named Realme 1 was launched in May 2018.
Realme first launched its products in India prior to expanding to Southeast Asia, Middle East and Europe. In the year 2018, Realme emerged as a leading brand in India and is the fourth largest smartphone brand in India since the year 2019. Over 50% of the global sales of Realme products come from India. Realme introduced the first 5G smartphone in the Indian market with its X50 Pro 5G smartphone becoming a top 5G brand in India with a market share of 23%.
Realme entered the Chinese market in the year 2019 by launching several smartphones for the Chinese consumers. This brand surpassed 10 million users in August 2019.
