OnePlus Technology Company Limited is a Chinese multinational consumer electronics manufacturer founded in the year 2013. It is a subsidiary of BBK Electronics along with Oppo and Vivo. OnePlus is a leading smartphone brand and also manufactures and sells many other products such as smart televisions, smartwatches, power banks and more. The company has a presence in 34 countries.
History
OnePlus Technology Company Limited was founded on 16th December 2013 by Pete Lau, a former vice-president of Oppo, along with Carl Pei. Oppo Electronics is a major institutional investor in OnePlus and the company shares the manufacturing line of Oppo. OnePlus One, the first smartphone developed by OnePlus, was launched on April 2014. It used the Cyanogen operating system. OnePlus would later develop its own Android version known as Oxygen OS for its smartphones.
OnePlus expanded to Europe in 2014 and also launched OnePlus One in India through Amazon. In the year 2015, OnePlus launched its budget smartphone OnePlus X. OnePlus released its first wireless headphones named OnePlus Bullets in the year 2018. In the year 2019, OnePlus started its smart television series exclusively sold in India with the launch of OnePlus TV Q1. OnePlus released multiple new products in 2020, such as OnePlus Nord and OnePlus Buds.
OnePlus and Oppo entered into a partnership in the year 2021. Subsequently, OnePlus merged its Oxygen OS with Oppo’s Colour OS. The software used in the devices of OnePlus is different from that of Oppo devices but the codebase is same.
Products
OnePlus markets and sells its smartphones in OnePlus and Nord lines. OnePlus line includes OnePlus 1, OnePlus 2, OnePlus X, OnePlus 5/5T, OnePlus 7/7 Pro, OnePlus 10T and OnePlus 10 Pro. Nord line includes OnePlus Nord N10 5G, OnePlus Nord N200, OnePlus Nord CE2 and OnePlus Nord 2. Two types of smartphones released outside these lines are OnePlus Ace and OnePlus 10R.
OnePlus has also launched headphones such as OnePlus Bullets and OnePlus Buds. Other wearables such as smart bands and watches have also been released by this brand. The smart television series such as OnePlus TV Q1 and Q1 Pro, OnePlus TV Y series and OnePlus TV Unus Series are sold in India only.
