History and Shareholding
Boat started as a cable manufacturer and seller in the year 2015. The initial capital investment of Rs. 30 lakhs was made by the founders themselves. By the year 2020, the company had expanded its customer base to over 800,000. Boat reached its pinnacle in the year 2022 when it became the largest wearable electronics brand in India.
The majority shareholder in Boat is Warburg Pincus, holding 36.48% of the company’s shares. The founders Aman Gupta and Sameer Mehta hold 28.26% shares each. Fireside Ventures holds 3.76% of the shares while Qualcomm Ventures holds 2.6% of the shares. 0.64% shares are held by others.
Brand image
Boat showcases its products and maintains its brand image through celebrity influencers creatively called Boatheads. Its list of brand ambassadors include cricketers such as Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer along with celebrity singers such as Neha Kakkar and Naved Sheikh. In addition, the company has also tied up with sports franchises such as Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians for its marketing campaigns.
