Acer Inc. is a Taiwanese multinational company specialising in consumer electronics, advanced electronics technologies and hardware. The products of this company include desktop computers, laptop computers, smartphones, tablets, storage devices, servers, smart cameras, virtual reality devices and displays. As of September 2022, Acer is the sixth largest vendor of personal computers in terms of unit sales. History
Acer was established in the year 1976 by Stan Shih and Caroline Yeh. The company initially operated as a distributor of electronic parts and as a consultant in the field of microprocessor technologies. Later, it ventured into PC manufacturing and became a major player in the PC market. Acer reorganised into 5 groups in the year 1998, namely Acer International Service Group, Acer Semiconductor Group, Acer Information Products Group, Acer Peripherals Group and Acer Sertek Service Group.
In the year 2007, Acer acquired Gateway in United States and Packard Bell in Europe. In the same year, it became the second largest and third largest provider of computers and notebooks respectively in the world.

Acer Inc. operates in 40 countries all over the world. The most prominent subsidiaries of this company are Acer Computer Australia, Acer India Private Limited, Acer Indonesia, Acer America Corporation and Acer Europe.

Acer India has a significant share in the desktop computers and notebook market in the country. Acer Indonesia is the second largest computer vendor in the country. Acer America Corporation manages the research and development, manufacturing and marketing operations of the brand in USA and Canada.
