History
When two boyhood friends, R.S. Agarwal, and R.S. Goenka, quit their corporate careers with the Birla Group in 1974 to start Kemco Chemicals, a cosmetic manufacturing business in Kolkata, the Emami Group was born in West Bengal in the mid-1970s. It bought the Himani agriproducts company in 1978. The Emami Group is a vast corporation with prominent leadership positions across various industries. The Group has around 25,000 workers spread across several sites. In 2015, Emami also bought “Kesh King’s” Ayurvedic Hair & Scalp company as part of a commercial plan.
